After a tough season, the team’s victory over Trinity Washington on October 29, especially in three sets, marked a high point for the Women’s Volleyball Team.  Unfortunately this was the last  home game for  senior Vivian Huddleston ‘24.

The surprise decorations in the gym and the support from her teammates made her senior night special. Huddleston seemed genuinely moved by the effort her teammates put into celebrating her, remarking that it “really means a lot” to her. Her gratitude extended to her coach and teammates, especially Emma, who filled in multiple roles throughout the night.

Huddleston described the team dynamic as one of willingness  with the group of 12 doing whatever it took to make things work. Despite the challenges the team faced this season, Huddleston said they received positive feedback from other coaches, who praised their hard work. Huddleston mentioned how other coaches would say,  “your guys are really working hard this year.”

The team’s determination paid off with this win.  It felt “really good,” when the team won on her senior night, says  Huddleston. She says “it was a great feeling, to just run outside and ring the bell.”  She describes it as a “weight off your shoulders.”  Continuing, “We work too hard to not win.” Then the team finally got what they wanted. Huddleston explains “ it was a very exciting moment.”

The victory was a culmination of all the hard work, and it was a relief to see the team’s perseverance finally rewarded. A particularly sweet moment for Huddleston was the surprise visit from two friends from her previous school, who showed up for the game. It’s these kinds of connections and moments that make senior nights so special for athletes.   Her emotions, as she described, “crazy” that night.

Vivian also took a moment to reflect on her growth as a player. Last year she only got to play in 1 set against Trinity Washington, but this year she got to play in all three sets. “It felt like a huge set up.”  She got to look back and say, “Dang, I played some volleyball this year.”  And little did she know that was her last home game of the year.

Though this was her last home game, Huddleston didn’t feel too sentimental at the time. She told her teammates, “I still got three more games and practices with you guys.” This was her signaling her focus on finishing out the season strong.

Overall, Vivian Huddleston’s senior night was not just a celebration, but also a reflection of the team’s journey and bonding experiences. It will be an experience that Vivian  and her teammates will treasure forever.
