A Spring Lacrosse Recap

by

With spring sports ending within the past week and with finals finally over, this semester comes to a close.  Both the Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse teams had some big games this past season. Both teams played their hardest this season and had plenty of celebrations. Even though the teams didn’t make it to the Eastern College Athletic Conference, the teams still played tough out on the Beldon Field.

On April 15th, against Moravian University, the team made a huge comeback by being down in the first quarter of the game and coming back to win 12-9.  Mason Bowler ‘26 says it was “just a really hard-fought game and [was] super excited when we were able to beat them.”  He added, “ Moravian was definitely the most exciting, probably most fun [he] had playing lacrosse here.”

In terms of the team dynamic this year, Bowler says, “Team-wise, I think we were a really close, really tight-knit group of guys.” When  compared to the team from last year, Bowler said things are  “definitely different from last year, with guys leaving and transferring in and our freshmen.”  Bowler is a transfer student himself and has only been on the team for two years.  “In terms of energy, that was like my job.” Bowler, “ I was our energy guy in the locker room, like getting everyone ready to go out and on the field.”

He took the time to shout out a teammate. “The life of the team was Jacob Morgan.”  Bowler mentioned how Jacob Morgan was awarded Offensive Player of the Year and named First Team All-Conference by the conference.

Another player that Bowler mentioned was Nick Gambone ‘26, “ Our captain who kind of kept everything together.” Like any college athlete, most athletes look to find someone who is well organized and knows what they’re doing to take up the role of captain.

Women’s Lacrosse:

Women’s Lacrosse also had some notable games this season and big wins. On April 8, the Women’s Lacrosse team beat Lycoming College with a final score of 13-9.

Angelena Holmes ‘27 says, “Ever since they came into the conference, we haven’t beaten them.”  Lycoming College joined the Landmark Conference during the 2023-24 season.

Another important game for the Women’s Lacrosse team was their senior game against Elizabethtown College; even though this was a loss, it was very close. With Goucher getting closer every quarter of the game, the Gophers just couldn’t get enough goals in time to beat them.

The team’s last home game against Susquehanna on April 22th was special. In this game, the team represented LGBTQ pride.   This was not another win, but a great game played again, with Goucher’s team battling teamwork.  Holmes said, “ Even though we didn’t win, it was our best showing against them.” She explained, “ We fought four quarters, and played hard as a team all the time, and encapsulated everything we’d worked for like all season.”  Emma Nelson ‘27 said, “It was such a supportive atmosphere where everyone had each other’s back, and yeah, we would goof around.”

When talking about the team dynamic, this year, certain players came to mind. Holmes says, “ Camden West, she’s always being a spark on our side.”

Holmes also shouts out Amaya Locke ‘26.  Holmes said, “ She just came back from her ACL injury too, so that was really big for her and big for us too.”

As always, Go Gophers and see you next season!
