The Quindecim team is required to uphold the expectations of the Quindecim: Standards & Principles (2025). All writers and contributing student journalists are expected to strive to uphold the updated 10 Principles of Journalism, revised from The Elements of Journalism (Kovach & Rosenstiel, 2014).
1. Journalism’s first obligation is the whole, verified, contextualized truth, along with a willingness to quickly acknowledge and correct mistakes.
2. Journalism’s first loyalty is to the public both global and domestic.
3. The core work of journalism is a systematic process of verification.
4. Its practitioners must strive to maintain an independence from outside influences.
5. Journalism must serve as a monitor of power.
6. It must inform, serve and support public discourse.
7. It must strive to make the relevant accessible without detracting from the truth.
8. It must present the news in a way that is proportional to community concerns and current events.
9. Its practitioners have an obligation to hold themselves accountable to their personal conscience.
10. Members of the public have the same rights and responsibilities as members of the media when they produce content.
