Goucher Sports & Fantasy Football

Welcome to Ann Marie and Sable’s sports column! Read below for updates on Cross Country, Field Hockey, Volleyball, and Soccer! Now we may not know much about sports, but we’re trying our best. If you have advice or suggestions for us, please don’t hesitate to complain (we’re trying). If you’re interested, we will also be logging our Fantasy Football league stats every issue. Read until the end to see!

Cross Country’s most recent event was the 2026 Seahawk XC Classic which was held on Friday, September 18th. There were 2 races. The women competed in a 6k race, and the men in an 8k. Each event had team and individual races. Kalia Kiyoi ran a beautiful 6k with an ending time of 31:31.0 and a split of 8:27.2. Kiyoi was the only racer for the Goucher women’s team.

The men’s 8k team got second place with a time of 2:47:41 and an average  time of ~ 33:32. Jair Smith and Jayden Keels took home 1st and 2nd respectively in the men’s individual 8k. Smith had an ending time of 28:56.8 with a split of 5:59.4. Keels had a total time of 29:21.7 with a split of 5:54.6.

Field Hockey is on a three-match winning streak as of September 20th. Way to go Gophers! During their most recent match against Roanoke, Ava Barnes scored two goals with assists from Vivian Onunga and Angelena Holmes. Let’s cheer on the Field Hockey team to continue their winning streak!

Women’s Volleyball had a strong start to the season. Though there may have been some bumps along the road, the volleyball team won their home game against Eastern Mennonite University on September 19th. While Eastern Mennonite took the first set, your Goucher Gophers took the next three. There are a lot of eyes on Goucher volleyball this season, so your eyes should be on them too!

The women’s soccer team has had some tough competitors, but they continue to hold  their own. They beat Wilson on September 17th 3-0. The game was thrilling from start to finish.  Shoutout to freshman Ari Torres for not only scoring every goal this game, but also every  goal for women’s soccer so far! We are excited to see where this season takes us.

Men’s Soccer has had 3 wins so far this season and 2 ties. They’ve scored 15 goals so far, and 6 of those goals came from a spectacular game against Penn St. Brandywine. All the goals were scored by different players. Half of the goals were unassisted. Four of the goals were scored in the 1st half of the game and the other two were scored in the 2nd half. Best of luck to the soccer Gophers for the rest of their season!

Stay tuned for equestrian, dance, tennis, and more in the next issue!

Anyway, on to the real reason y’all are reading. Ann Marie’s fantasy team: Coastal Hobos won their first match with a total of 118.35 points, and week two has just started when this is being written. The Hobos are doing good especially after we moved DK Metcalf off the bench, but that is the only good thing that seems to be going well. There are too many  players on the bench as the Hobos are turning into the hurt locker.

On the other hand, Sable’s team: SON is not doing too hot. Son, Sable is in fact crine. She is choosing to blame Puka Nacua for her loss. He was so bad that he was booted and replaced (maybe that wasn’t a good choice, but that’s none of Sable’s business). However, shout out to Matt Gay the dream kicker! Thank you for all the points you scored for Sable last week! More amazing news, Sable’s sister’s boyfriend is in last place in her family’s league. Let us all hope it stays that way. Sable’s team needs a WHOLE factory reset, so please give her advice if you see her. I know you readers are invested in the Coastal Hobos and SON now, so stay updated by reading every edition of The Q!
