The Women’s Basketball team, along with the brand-new Goucher Cheerleading Club, started on Tuesday, November 11, with a win against Regent University.

The  Women’s team made their first big debut at the Women’s Basketball game on November 11, 2025. It was also the first big debut for the Goucher Cheerleading Club.  During the halftime show, on November 11, Zora Turner ‘29 said, “ I wasn’t really nervous. I was just saying to myself, ‘it’ll all be cool, everything’s fine.’” In the end, she said, “It did end up being fun.”

When asked about the team’s favorite cheer, Hope Bryom said, “The halftime show.”  At this point, Tyler Greene ‘29 said, “ We only have one game so far.”  The club all agree that to make the best cheers and show, it has to be based on their “energy.”  Lety De Moraes Antunes ‘29 noted,  “We  also feed off each other.”

Looking ahead, the club is hoping to travel with both the Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams. This should be an exciting experience for the athletes and the cheerleaders themselves.  Aiden Alston ‘29 also said, “That would be a big opportunity for teamwork in the future.”

For a lot of them, this club provides a sense of community.  All the members in the club enjoyed cheering with the other girls in the club. They were asked what their favorite aspect of Cheerleading Club is. Bryom said it was, “The sisterhood and getting to perform for students.”  De Moraes Antunes said, “I like the community.”  Many members emphasized how performing was the best part for them. Niara Medina-Michell ‘29 said that her most meaningful part was “showing support for the team.”

The majority of the team are first-year students, with a handful of seniors in the club.  Alston offered, “To make friends in college, or go to a club–that really helps”  Rosana Escobar ‘29 said the club “Help[ed] [her] find people.”

The Goucher Cheerleading Club is off to an energetic start, and hopes to continue cheering for many more basketball games this winter!
