With the winter sports teams wrapping up at the end of February with all their championship meets and the spring sports season just starting up, there were a lot of record-breaker athletes, especially from the swim team and track team. The following is a recap of these outstanding record-breaking athletes.
Swimming
During the swim conferences, junior Ella Robinson broke a 32-year-old record in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke. Then, in the finals, she lowered the record yet again at 1:08.27. Ella has qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). Once again she broke the record, for a third time with a time of 1:08.07.
Track and Field
During the track & field conference, first-year Jaylin Briston tied the long jump record with sophomore Mark who broke the record at the last meet. Then, Jaylin broke the long jump record on March 2nd at the South Region Final Qualifier with a distance of 6.84 meters.
Another remarkable record breaker from the Track team, as sophomore Tanise Thornton-Fillyaw wins for the second straight year in a row with a time of 2:11.51. Tanise has also qualified for the NCAA DIII Indoor Track & Field Championships and competed on Friday, March 8.
A third member of the track team is senior Sean Whitfield, who took second in the Men’s 800 and lowered the school record with a time of 1:56.31. The next week, he lowered the record once more with a time of 1:55.92.
A fourth member of the track team who also broke a record at the Landmark Championship was sophomore Mark Martin. Martin finished in third place overall and broke a new school record of 13.70 meters.
