The tennis team is in the height of its season. They’ll compete in the Landmark Conference championships later this week. Sarai Oquendo Silveira, a sophomore on the women’s team, is heading into the championship season with high expectations. In the competition against McDaniel on April 12, she and Natalia Navarro ‘26 posted an 8-0 win at No. 2 in doubles. In singles, Silveira captured a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4, her fourth straight win.

The tennis team’s next competition, scheduled for Saturday, April 15, was postponed to Sunday, April 16 due to rain. Silvera didn’t let that rattle her, and beat her opponent 6-0, 6-0 again, to earn her fifth straight singles win. In that same meet, she and Shelby Meek ‘25 won doubles at No. 3, winning 8-0.

As if that wasn’t impressive enough, Silveira has a team-high ten dual match doubles wins this season. Despite her recent success, Silveira has remained humble.

“I feel that I’m finally seeing the results of the hours of practice and my dedication into the sport,” she said. She then immediately brought up her team, saying they’ve “been amazing, and they have given a great performance… Their support is also valuable to me.” As for her time on the tennis court, Silveira has “been enjoying it,” to say the least.

“The goals for me are to finish the season stronger than ever and keeping my hard work active.” Silveira said. With Conference Championships in a few days, she’s about to get an opportunity to do just that. As of the time of this printing, the Landmark Conference Semifinal schedule hasn’t been posted, but the women’s team is set to compete on Wednesday, April 26.
