In The Loop highlights events going on at Goucher and in places nearby to help readers stay up-to-date on what’s happening in the near future. Below you’ll find on and off-campus events hand-selected by Q staffers with college students in mind. The list will be updated as new events arise.

Helicon’s 38th Annual Winter Solstice Concert:

  • What: Helicon toured widely throughout North American and Europe for many years, and are internationally recognized as among the finest practitioners of their respective instruments The members ceased touring in 1998 to pursue solo careers, but are reuniting for two shows on December 16, bringing to life seasonal Scottish, Irish, French Canadian, Appalachian, Bluegrass and other world music.

Goucher Choral Society Fall Concert:

  • What: Join the Goucher choral society for a “Celebration of Diversity Through Music of Queer and Transgender Composers.” This concert will celebrate the music of prominent queer and transgendered composers, including Aaron Copland, Libby Larsen, Michael Bussewitz-Quarm, and Brandon Williams.

  • When: Thursday, November 30, 7:30PM

The Nutcracker:

  • What: Goucher’s campus will be hosting several performances of Tchaikovsky’s iconic  ballet The Nutcracker. 
  • Who: White Marsh Ballet (Dec 01, 02) Baltimore Ballet (Dec 09)
  • Where: Kraushaar Auditorium
  • When: Friday, December 01 at 6:00PM, Saturday, December 02 at 5:00PM, Saturday December 09 at 6:30PM
  • Cost: $25.00

Goucher College Orchestra: 

  • What: Goucher’s orchestra is performing their fall concert, titled “Romance.” This concert will include Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 as well as Bruch’s Romance for Viola and Orchestra, featuring Goucher Alumnus and current viola instructor Michael Polonchak. Other works to be performed include those by Brahms, Holsinger, and Offenbach.
