Gophers Turns Goucher Into Halloween Town

by

Halloween has always been my favorite time of year. It’s the day where I can dress up as anything I want to be and do all kinds of activities that let me connect with ghosts and monsters. As I stepped on to campus on Halloween, I soon found out that I wasn’t the only one that’s in the mood of frights! Students at Goucher College show off their love for Halloween. From October 23rd to October 31st, Goucher creates a Halloweek as students participate in specific events and activities to get excited for the day and night of frights. From watching horror movies to dressing up in the Rocky Horror Picture Show, everyone found an opportunity to get into the holiday. Throughout the day on the 31st, there have been plenty of gophers expressing their Halloween spirit by dressing up in creative costumes and outfits. I’ve seen a lot of people dressed up for the holiday, which made me feel proud that a lot of people in Goucher share their love for Halloween like me. Halloween has been my favorite holiday, with one of the reasons being being able to see people get creative as they come up with scary, fabulous, and silly costumes. Whether they are store bought or homemade, Goucher students showed off their costumes to get hyped for the spookiest time of year.

Goucher expresses their love for Halloween by going around campus with their costumes on. Many locations, such as Mary Fisher Dining Hall was where I saw a lot of people dressed up in such unique outfits! For example, sophomore Stella (left side) and junior Kit (right side) express their love for Halloween by dressing up as different scary creatures. Stella was dressed up as a classic vampire, while Kit was a headcrab zombie from the video game called Half-Life. Stella and Kit love to customize their spooky attire to express their excitement for the time where creepy creatures come to life! The autumn aesthetic and spooky decorations are the key elements that show what makes Halloween so beloved.

Stella explained what she liked most about Halloween. “I really like makeup and fashion. So Halloween is the time where you dress up and look cool.”

“For me, I really like assembling costumes,” Kit adds, “You get to look cool as you get into costumes in public.”

The enjoyment of Halloween involves people expressing themselves by using outrageous makeup and costumes as they go around enjoying fall activities. From dressing up as a monster, having a cute Halloween outfit, to even dressing up as Barbie and Ken, everyone was able to enjoy themselves!

For me, Halloween is one of those precious times of the year where I can participate in festivities and dress up as my favorite creatures and characters! I’ve enjoyed celebrating Halloween since I was a kid, so it’s always fun reliving what I’ve always loved. I really love to cosplay, so Halloween is the perfect day to show my interest in cosplay. This year, I cosplayed as one of my favorite anime characters, Stocking from Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. Everyone complimented my attire as I walked around on campus in my cosplay and wig. It made me feel really good because I felt comfortable expressing myself in a costume. Halloween is a day filled with tricks and treats. Whether you’re going to a haunted house with a bunch of friends, or just chilling in your house watching horror movies while drinking some apple cider, Halloween is filled with thrills and chills! Goucher shows that you’re never too old to dress up and enjoy the holidays!
