A Brief Reflection on Christine Krieger

On September 2nd, Goucher saw the departure of Associate Director of New Student programs
Christine Krieger. Krieger, a graduate of McDaniel and Sarah Lawrence Colleges, originally
arrived at Goucher in 2010. Over the past decade, she has guided countless new Gophers in their transition to college life, from organizing events for newcomers to meet one another to helping students find the right dorm room.

Since Krieger joined Goucher, she has been a valuable and well-respected member of the
Division of Student Affairs and the College as a whole. From her initial work and contribution in
the Office of Student Engagement to now leading the Goucher New Student Programs, Krieger’s work has been incredibly impactful in the acclimation and retention of our first-year students for eleven years.

Krieger’s sense of humor, professionalism, empathy, and collaborative spirit are only a few of
the traits that have made her a great colleague and mentor to our students. During Goucher’s
year-and-a-half extended closure, Krieger’s help was precious. Despite being connected to the
community only through Zoom due to the Covid-19 pandemic, she still did her best to make the incoming Class of 2024, the majority of whom would not set foot on campus until a couple of months ago, feel just as much a part of the community as everyone else.

As a staff-writer for The Quindecim, I wish Christine Krieger good luck for the future and I thank her for everything she contributed to the College and to the student experience. Krieger has shared that she remains local and will be maintaining relationships with many of the students she has worked with. Therefore she welcomes individual and informal get-togethers rather than a large community-wide celebration.
